Did you know Arvada was essentially founded as a result of the discovery of gold in the area. In fact, the Arvada area is the location of the first recorded finding of gold in the Rocky Mountain area. It all started in 1850 when a pioneer and prospector on his way to California happened to stop by a creek with his sluice pan. The man's name was Lewis Ralston and he managed to pull six grams of gold out of the creek. Within twenty years, a railroad had laid tracks nearby and the area, which had become known as Ralston Point, was being surveyed for a town site. As the new town was built, it lost the name Ralston Point and was renamed Arvada after Hiram Arvada Haskin, the brother in law of one of the city planners. Wikipedia
