Did you know in 1915 Burien completed construction on the Burien railroad. The track connected Seattle to Burien, and carried, among other things, a small passenger car. The car, which offered transportation to Seattle via White Center, was well liked by the residents in the area. Unfortunately it was plagued with technical problems. Specifically, the tracks were rendered unfit for travel during both the summer and winter for different reasons. In the winter, the tracks would develop a thick layer of ice, and in the summer the tracks would become slick because of a tremendous amount of squashed caterpillars that would build up on the tracks. After only a brief period of service, the trolley service was discontinued.
