Did you know when the town of Cambridge was first being plotted out, its current location was decided upon because it housed several geographic properties that were considered conducive to defending the city from assaults from naval forces. Another reason for the location of Cambridge was the availability of a fresh water spring whose water was thought to cure ailments. Originally known as "Newe Towne", Cambridge developed into a more peaceful settlement than those around it, probably as a result of being sheltered from the hustle and bustle of the larger harbors nearby.
