Did you know Cedar Rapids was originally named Columbus at the time of its founding in 1838. However, the name was altered several years later when the town was re-plotted. Its new name, Cedar Rapids, came from the area of white water in the nearby Cedar River. Apart from its official title, Cedar Rapids is also known as the City of Five Seasons, which is meant to include the usual four seasons, plus another one with which to enjoy the other four. The 'five seasons' theme is pervasive throughout Cedar Rapids, being represented in numerous locations by several statues and art installations, most of which based off of the Tree of Five Seasons downtown.
