Did you know Glendale gained national prestige in the early nineteen hundreds as being one of the driving forces behind eschewing the era of aviation and bringing it to public attention. A notable resident in this regard was a pilot named Leslie Coombs Brand. Leslie was a driving force in many of the developments of Glendale's, and indeed the nation's, aviation industry. Leslie owned his own grass airstrip, at which he would host prestigious 'fly-in' parties where guests were required to fly in to attend. Leslies airstrip was the precursor to the nearby (and now defunct) Grand Central Airport, a famous facility that was frequented by world famous pilots such as Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh.
