Did you know Lansing, Michigan was established when two brothers from the East Cost tricked a bunch of other Eastcosters to buy land and move out to a town called 'Biddle City' (which never actually existed) in the area that is now downtown Lansing. The two brothers painted Biddle City as an up-and-coming community with sixty five city blocks, a church, and public and academic facilities. Unfortunately, it was all a lie, and when the settlers moved out to the area, they found much to their dismay that 'Biddle City' didn't exist. Instead what they found was an uninhabited floodplain. The settlers had invested so much of their resources into moving out to the area that they decided to stay anyway and establish their own city. They named it Lansing, after their hometown in New York.
