Did you knowthe city of Lexington existed for almost two decades before the state the Kentucky was created. The beginnings of Lexington, Kentucky were very modest, it started as just a campsite of a group of explorers. The group's leader was a man by the name of William McConnell, and their site was situated in the area that is now called McConnell Springs. At the time, the American Revolution had just begun, and the first major engagements and victories for the colonists were the Battles of Lexington and Concord. When McConnell and his men got word of the battles, they decided to imbue their new settlement with patriotism and show their support for the colonists, so they named it Lexington. Wikipedia
