Did you know Olathe, Kansas was established by Dr. John T. Barton. Dr. Barton set out on the American frontier in 1857 to plot out an area for a city. He traveled to through Johnson County, found a plot of land that was to his liking, and proceeded to survey and plot out an area for development. Throughout his journey he was supposedly taken aback by the natural beauty of the landscape and the flora. As a result of this he wanted to call the town 'Beautiful'. Dr Barton was believed to have traveled with a Shawnee interpreter. According to legend Dr. Barton asked his companion what the Shawnee word for 'Beautiful' was, and the interpreter's reply was 'Olathe'. Wikipedia
