Did you know there was a tremendous amount of discussion and controversy regarding the naming of Orange. The first officially suggested name was Richland, but that effort failed because a city by the name of Richland already existed in California. After that, several prominent townspeople came forward with suggestions for names. When all was said and done, four options still stood on the table, they were 'Lemon', 'Orange', 'Walnut', and 'Olive'. When a decision couldn't be reached, it was decided that the four men who presented each of the names play a game of poker and the winner would be able to name the town as they pleased. The winner of the game was the gentlemen playing for the name Orange.
