Did you know several names were considered before settling on Pasadena. Three of Pasadena's founders came up with and presented three names. The first two were Indianola and Granada. The third was suggested by a Dr. Elliot who wanted a name of native origins. He proposed a number of similar names that he had translated, all of which ended with 'of the valley' which resulted in all the translated names to end with pa-sa-de-na. The name Pasadena was believed to be so beautiful that the beginning of the translations were dropped and when the town names were voted on, it was Granada, Indianola, and Pasadena. Pasadena was widely regarded as the most beautiful of the three, and designated as the cities new name.
