Did you know Pueblo is famous for the number of Medal of Honor recipients live here. Pueblo has the highest per capita rate of Medal of Honor recipients of anywhere else in the country. There have been four Pueblo residents who have won the award, Raymond G. Murphy, Drew D. Dix, Carl L. Sitter, and William J. Crawford. When then President Dwight D. Eisenhower gave the Medal to Raymond G. Murphy, he famously remarked "What is it... something in the water out there in Pueblo? All you guys turn out to be heroes!". Pueblo's City Council came up with the motto "Home of Heroes" in the mid nineties to commemorate its Medal of Honor recipients.
