Did you know Westminster was originally known as DeSpain Junction after one of its first residents, Pleasant DeSpain. DeSpain arrived in what is now the Westminster area in 1870, and made a home for himself the present day location of West 76th Ave and Lowell St. An eastern real estate developer by the name of C.J. Harris saw opportunity in DeSpain Junction and decided to acquire some property in the area. At this point the name switched to Harris. The final name change didn't occur until the city was incorporated in 1911. At that time Westminster Castle had been built with the promise of being 'The Princeton of the West', and the community finally settled on the name Westminster. Wikipedia
